LETTER FROM A PARENT

An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth A Pound of Cure

March 6, 2003

To:  Mrs. Mary Mungo, Head Start Director
Henley-Roberts Head Start
275 Irene Roberts Road
Lillington, NC  27546

Mrs. Mungo:

I would like to thank the Head Start Program.  Recently, my child was screened for her vision through Prevent Blindness North Carolina.  The results came back to me through the Head Start Program.  The screened results showed possible eye problems and strongly advised me to follow up with an eye doctor.

Today my daughter and I went with Mrs. Romero, one of your Family Service Workers to the eye doctor.  The doctor diagnosed my child with Astigmatism.  If your program had not offered this screening to my child, I would not have known this early in her life she had this problem.  I thought she could see well, but I was wrong.

Thank you again!  My daughter will be wearing glasses in a few weeks.  This program offers helpful and very important screens for the children.  We will always appreciate your help.  Thank you also for providing transportation and a translator.

Sincerely,
Antonio Valdez

PS--Now I need to get used to seeing her with her new pretty glasses!
